چکیده

The aetiology of painful dorsal wrist ganglia remains obscure. In a prospective study we investigated the link between a painful dorsal wrist ganglion and wrist joint abnormality with wrist arthroscopy before excision of the ganglion. Of 16 wrists arthroscoped 12 were abnormal, 10 had an abnormal scapholunate joint, and two had abnormal lunatetriquetral joints. We think that painful dorsal wrist ganglia, like popliteal cysts in the knee, are markers of underlying joint abnormalities. Surgeons who treat painful ganglia should be aware of a possible underlying cause so that they can target treatment more accurately, particularly in recurrent cases and those patients with persistent wrist pain after excision of the ganglion.

Prospective outcomes of arthroscopic treatment of dorsal wrist ganglia.

The purpose of this study was to assess the results of arthroscopic resection of dorsal wrist ganglia. Between November 2002 and September 2007, all patients with dorsal wrist ganglia underwent arthroscopic resection in our institution. Average follow-up was 39.2 months (range, 24-71 months). Fifty-two patients (40 women and 12 men; mean age, 29.8 years) were treated with our operative techniqu...

[Arthroscopic volar wrist ganglionectomy].

As an original technique developed by our department, the preliminary result of arthroscopic resection of volar wrist ganglion was first published in 2003. Since then, there were few reports in the literature concerning this new treatment method. The aim of the study is to evaluate the long-term outcome of this treatment technique. From August 1997 to April 2005, 21 volar wrist ganglia with ave...

Arthroscopic Ablation of Osteoid Osteoma in the Wrist

Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor that rarely involves joints. Although there are several reports of arthroscopic osteoid osteoma excisions, to our knowledge, there are no reports of this type of treatment for osteoid osteoma in carpal bones. We report two cases of arthroscopic (a person who had a pain in the left wrist and the other one with carpal tunnel syndrome) with excision of oste...

Arthroscopic dorsal wrist ganglion excision with color-aided visualization of the stalk: minimum 1-year follow-up.

BACKGROUND Dorsal wrist ganglia (DWG) are a common, benign soft-tissue mass of the wrist. Excision of DWG is a common procedure performed by hand surgeons and may be performed using either open or arthroscopic techniques. This study aims to evaluate the frequency of stalk visualization with intralesional injection of inert dye in the course of arthroscopic excision along with incidence of recur...

Clinical examination of the wrist.

In summary, evaluation of the painful wrist is based upon a thorough knowledge of wrist anatomy. The key is to localize and identify the painful structures through systematic palpation of the wrist's bony and soft-tissue anatomy and to perform provocative tests to reproduce the patient's symptoms and identify instability. It is important to keep in mind that clinical findings must be interprete...
